Last Tuesday was a hiccup of sorts, apologies to anyone who.planned to go but this week we are most certainly on and plan to be on for weeks to come! Come join us at the edge gallery, 611 main, after 7pm to sketch, craft, sew, write, draw digitally or traditionally, paint, play Sims(or what ever else strikes your fancy), it is a night where artists of all types come to chat with other artists in this chilly city of ours.
Hope to see you there!
~L.J.
Apologies for the late notice but art night today, on the 22nd is cancelled. Something unexpected has come up.
^^; Hopefully see you all next week!

Attention, artists! The Ai-Kon Mascot Contest is now open.

Ai-Kon looking for a new design for Aiko, the Ai-Kon mascot, for uses on the convention’s promotional materials and merchandise. Aiko appears on a variety of Ai-Kon promotional materials, including t-shirts, posters, flyers, badges, programs, and the Ai-Kon website.

This year’s theme is Monster Trainer Aiko.

Generally, Aiko is a cheerful, stylish, energetic anime girl with pink hair and blue eyes. Please keep the eye and hair colour but feel free to change the attitude to suit the theme.

What is a Monster Trainer? Monster trainers are the human characters present in simulation virtual pet games such as Monster Rancher and Digimon, as well as collection-based RPGs such as Pokemon. These trainers take it upon themselves to befriend, raise and train monster companions in order to fight in tournaments or to accompany the trainer on her quests and travels.

This theme will enable you lots of room to explore and be creative! Just please remember that Ai-Kon is a family friendly convention.

ABOUT AI-KON: Ai-Kon (www.ai-kon.org) is Manitoba's largest anime convention. An all-ages event, the goal of Ai-Kon is the promotion of Japanese/Asian animation and culture to the public. Started in 2001 by a local anime club, Ai-Kon took a reorganizing hiatus in 2002, returning in 2003 to become an autonomous event, run by an independent volunteer committee. "Ai" means "love" in Japanese, hence Ai-Kon's slogan "For the Love of Anime".

Anyone know of a good place here in the city to get artist prints made? I'd rather not go to Staples again after they botched my last order.

I'm not quite sure if you can do this without being a student, but the print shop at RRC in the Exchange District is probably the cheapest place to print in the whole city.  11x17 cardstock color cost me something like 0.50$ last time I printed there. They don't check for student ID so you might be able to just walk in and get it done regardless.

Hi,

I am an indie video game developer and I would like to collaborate with a local artist on a project for a game competition called Indie Speed Run. www.indiespeedrun.com It runs for the month of September.

The competition assigns you a random theme for the game and then you have 48 hours to create your game. It will be judged by some of the best Indie Devs out there and there are cash prizes.

You can check out some of my games at: plutoniumpowered.com/games.htm

Message me if you are interested.

Chris.

Hello, I wanted to share my Anime Club's mascot contest here with you all:

We are reaching out to the artist community!

The Tomodachi Anime Club is looking for artists to design our turtle mascot. How you want to interpret that is up to you? You could make a space turtle, a robot turtle, and magical turtle, a ninja turtle(but not THE ninja turtles), anything as long as it is family friendly and an original design.

The winner will receive a small trophy, a free club t-shirt and button with your design, a 2014 membership, a selection of various art supplies(revealed at a later day) and our clubs gratitude.  The contest runs until December 21st and will be announced at our New Year’s Day party and then following that on our website and Facebook group. The Tomodachi Anime Club will retain rights for use on club materials and merchandise.

Please email your entries to: tomodachianimeclub@gmail.com , limit of 3 entries per person.

We look forward to your designs!

Quick question... it's been a while since I've submitted anything, and I want to submit to the Digital gallery but can't seem to find a "contribute" button on that page... and when I try to submit from the top level it automatically slots me into "Featured". Is there a way around this?
